No quiero que me la menees
El hecho de que uno de los artículos de tu blog se publique en Menéame, una web española de publicación y promoción de noticias del estilo de Digg, puede suponer que se dispare tu número de visitas, pero he llegado a la conclusión de que me hace más mal que bien que se publique una noticia mía en Menéame.
Si alguna vez se os pasa por la cabeza, se agradece el esfuerzo pero, de verdad, no meneéis ninguna de mis noticias. Gracias.
No es sólo que el número de visitas sea intrascendente para los objetivos de este blog -que con sus modestas 10.000 páginas vistas al mes ha superado todas nuestras expectativas- sino que, vincular tus contenidos, que te has trabajado con sudor y golpe de tecla, con un trackback que los cataloga de forma frívola como spam, “irrelevante” o “erróneo” no merece un par de cientos de visitas más.
TU BLOG APESTA
No me entendáis mal. No es que quiera censurar la opinión de nadie. Si alguien cree que he escrito una tontería tan grande como la Catedral de Burgos puede escribirlo aquí, sin miedo a censura. Pero que por lo menos lo escriba y, si puede, lo argumente. La facilidad con la que alguien puede calificar tu artículo como spam simplemente leyendo el título y apretando un botón es la genialidad de Menéame… y su maldición.
La semana pasada escribí una reseña sobre una presentación de Jeffrey Zhao en la que hablaba sobre la supuesta superioridad de la sintaxis de C# sobre Java.
El debate en los comentarios (¡37!) alcanzó un nivel y una intensidad muy altos pero, aunque algunos tertulianos rebatieron con argumentos sólidos la presentación de Zhao, no conseguí provocar la reacción esperada: una presentación de similar factura con la que alguien demostrara que Jeffrey no tenía razón.
Con el ánimo de expandir aún más el debate se me ocurrió publicar la noticia en Menéame, una web española de publicación y promoción de noticias del estilo de Digg. Craso error, me masacraron sin piedad tachando el artículo de spam e incluso alguien lo califico como… erróneo ¿? ¿Cómo puede ser erróneo un artículo de opinión?
Todo se habría quedado ahí si no fuera porque, en el colmo de la osadía, algunos se atrevieron a comentar un artículo… que ni siquiera habían leído.
Sí, ya conozco la página del manual que advierte lo de don’t feed the troll pero, en este caso, fue superior a mis fuerzas. Tan descarada era la desinformación y ligereza de los votantes que hacía daño a la vista. E hice lo que me salió de dentro, contestar.
Lo que sucedió a partir de ese momento es una de las cosas más curiosas y gratificantes que me han sucedido nunca en Internet: reconducir una conversación que comenzó con un “Enlazar a tu propio blog apesta y se vota como spam” en algo productivo. El usuario Scan no sólo contestó a mis réplicas sino que, además, hizo algo que -hasta ahora- creía que era sólo una leyenda urbana y que dice mucho de él: reconocer que se había equivocado con su voto.
En cualquier caso, del intercambio de opiniones que mantuve con Scan pude sacar algo en claro: qué se cuece dentro de la mente del talibán meneante.
DENTRO DE LA MENTE DEL TALIBÁN MENEANTE
En la mente de todo usuario hardcore de Menéame puedes encontrar unas pautas comunes de comportamiento que están grabadas a fuego:
- Si publicas una noticia de tu blog, estás haciendo spam. Ya puedes haberte currado una disertación de 237 páginas sobre el urogallo astur digna de cum laude por la Universidad de Wichita. No se te ocurra pensar si quiera que puedes crear un contenido relevante para el resto de la Comunidad.
- Engáñame tonto. Para comprobar el punto anterior, los talibanes de Menéame utilizan complejos sistemas analíticos que les llevan a determinar si eres o no el autor de una noticia, como comprobar que tu nombre y/o tu avatar son parecidos al del autor del blog. Si publicas basura en tu página telacuelo.com, pero te creas un usuario con el nick “Rodolfa82″ y lo referencias en Menéame, tienes menos posibilidades de que te voten negativamente que si yo publico, con MI nombre y en MI nombre, MI contenido. Trolorolo.
- Para qué leer tu artículo cuando puedo juzgar tu título. Leer un artículo y ENTENDERLO puede requerir tiempo, mucho más tiempo que mirar por encima un título y darle a un botón. La mayoría de los votantes de Menéame votan y opinan sobre artículos que no han leído. Esto puede provocar situaciones hilarantes, como cuando publiqué la noticia de que Groovy.org buscaba colaboradores y algunos… ¡me la votaron como spam!. Incrediboool
- Sienta cátedra con tus comentarios. Ver comentarios como los de GreenEyed, el Maligno y Vehemente Dr. Arranz y muchos otros en tu humilde blog y compararlos con comentarios del nivel de “smokeless shit” da vergüenza ajena. Eso sí, comentemos, que eso sube el karma o como quiera que denominen el sistema de medalleo en el sitio.

ESTO ES UNA CRITICA CONSTRUCTIVA
Por supuesto, esto se quedaría en un rant de todo a 100, impropio de este blog, si me limitara a lanzar toda la ponzoñosa bilis acumulada contra la web sin hacer una critica constructiva. Usuarios como Scan demuestran que Menéame no es Mordor y la oscuridad no lo ha envuelto por completo. Aquí van algunas humildes sugerencias:
- El voto negativo debe ser excepcional. El propio sistema de Menéame entierra las noticias que la Comunidad olvida ¿Por qué votar negativamente una noticia? Algo muy feo ha tenido que hacer el autor como para que otro humano gaste su tiempo en votarlo negativamente.
- Exigir haber leído el texto para poder emitir un voto negativo. ¿Que cómo se podría controlar esto? De muchas maneras, por ejemplo, preguntando al votante negativo por la primera palabra del último párrafo del artículo.
- Exigir haber visitado al menos el sitio referenciado para emitir el voto negativo y que haya pasado un tiempo mínimo desde la visita, calculado por ejemplo en base al número de palabras del artículo.
Son sólo ideas, propuestas que probablemente no lleguen a ningún lado. No creo que este artículo llegue a nadie con capacidad de decisión en Menéame y dudo que los talibanes meneantes tengan dudas de fe, pero por si acaso, no menees esta noticia.
Paso de las visitas de quita y pon de Menéame, paso de contribuir a agrandar la supuesta influencia e importancia de Menéame en Internet, paso del tráfico de aluvión que no comenta ni participa. Hasta he quitado el botón para publicar allí los artículos. Ya no quiero que me la menees.

realmente me encanto tu artículo. La verdad que tienes tanta razón. A mi me paso lo mismo hace unos meses. Yo había hecho un artículo muy interesante sobre el buen uso de las baterías de notebook y publique en meneame. Después de un rato me pusieron como SPAM y me cancelaron la noticia con los miles de votos negativos, ademas solo verificaban mi autor con la pagina que enlace sin leer realmente el articulo. Y después los comentarios que pongan eran lamentables. Escribían cualquier cosa con tal de tener un comentario, y no tenía nada que ver con el articulo.
La conclusión que saque fue que los moderadores como la gente misma no lee, no es seria, no hace una critica constructiva, etc.
Se vota rápido nomas sin valorar nada y solo les importa el karma.
Después publique varias noticias muy interesantes de temas relacionados de otras paginas y que eran temas realmente buenos, pero recibí votos negativos. La conclusión que saque que en meneame solo existen temas que la gente vota positivamente y otros que por ser tecnología (llámese programación, ingeniería de software, etc) no valoran o no existe gente capacitada en entender. Entiendo que no haya pero porque no dejan nomas la noticia sin poner votos negativos si no entienden de lo que apareció.

Creo que somos muchos los que hemos colgado un artículo nuestro en meneame, y nos han tachado como spam automáticamente. Pero tras leer un poco sobre el tema creo que esta bastante claro.
Es muy bonito que voten tu artículo, pero meneame va un poco más lejos, alguien (externo a ti) tiene que leer tu artículo y publicarlo en meneame… esto también permite al sistema saber quienes son los usuarios más… "participativos"… luego, empieza lo de los votos.
La idea, he de reconocer que no es mala, pero no han sabido difundirla. Además, si empiezas así, el resto de comentarios/votos …. suelen ser bastante incendiarios debido a lo "frecuente" del tema. Están tan acostumbrados al "autobombo" que no se paran a preguntar ni leer.
He de reconocer que me gustó el artículo, la presentación… la cuál difundí entre compañeros… a los que también gustó. Pero me ha gustado más ver que tu objetivo era conseguir que alguien rebatiera el tema.
Piensa una cosa, las visitas están bien, que pongan comentarios es mucho mejor, pero cuando ves que alguien se toma las molestias de publicar tu artículo en meneame… sabes que tienes un "compañero".
Tu objetivo, una respuesta a la presentación… sería el "sumun" =)
meneame es un proyecto basado en "opiniones", por lo que siempre habrá polémicas, y aunque yo pienso seguir tus indicaciones y ni enviarte ni votarte en meneame… en perspectiva y tras vivirlo en mis carnes… no es para tanto!! =)
Por un lado decirte que por supuesto que Meneame no es, ni de cerca, el pináculo del saber y la capacidad intelectual de nuestro tiempo, así que tampoco es como para tomarse lo que te voten ahí demasiado en serio. Lo de que es una crítica constructiva…. realmente no, Daiv :). Ninguna de las propuestas que haces tiene la más mínima probabilidad de exito en un web abierto, así que eso o nado es decir lo mismo, e internamente lo sabes. Pero tampoco es que me importe, cuando no hay nada bueno que decir, pues qué le vamos a hacer.
Por otro lado, lo primero que me ha venido a la cabeza es… "¡¿Pero que c|@#~ esperabas?!" Seriously. Eso es Internet, esto es el mundo.
Y me hace gracia la "ingenuidad", que no eres el primero al que veo que le pasa ultimamente, de pensar que uno va a obtener el tipo de conversación que espera, con los comentarios que espera al nivel intelectual que uno quiere… ¿en serio os sorprende que la cosa se vaya de madre o que no salga como tenías planificado? Fijaos en lo que hay en la portada. La enorme mayoría son noticias de periódicos y similares, y los artículos de opinión son más bien escasos. Esto refleja que la costumbre es "escoger un tema y debatir", no leer opiniones externas.
También coincido con GreenEyed en que es un tanto ingenuo buscar en Meneame una conversación… bueno, en Meneame como en la mayoría de sitios, en muy pocos se puede encontrar una conversación satisfactoria. Pfff, yo no la encuentro ni en persona con la gente a la que conozco bien, así que imagina con desconocidos de la red xD

Soy usuario de Menéame desde el 08-03-2007 10:48 según perfil. Por mis años de meneante te diré que has captado a la perfección el funcionamiento de la mente del Talibán Meneante.

Menéame es una gran herramienta de difusión, se puede usar como baremo para medir que es lo que le importa a la población 2.0. Es un reflejo de las inquietudes de la gente que tiene opinión.
¿Cual es el problema de Menéame? el efecto “Power to the people”.
Como diría Spiderman “Un gran poder conlleva una gran responsabilidad” por lo que los usuarios de Menéame deberían leer las normativas… pero va a ser que no, así que pasa lo que pasa.

Los usuarios de Menéame tienen el poder de hacer que tu noticia llegue a la cima o se pudra en el olvido, los usuarios somos jueces y verdugos, puedes haber descubierto la cura contra el cáncer, si en el momento de publicarlo hay 4 Meneantes esperando con ansias Meneos donde poner un “MELAFO”,“Hay foto hay meneo” o el archiconocido “HOYGAN” tu descubrimiento no llegará a ningún sitio… Es triste pero es así. Sí quieres que tu Meneo llegue sin problemas a “Portada” casi tienes que usar la picaresca y conocer a la fauna de Menéame.
He tenido que leer un par de veces el comentario para entender lo que querías decir :) Como siempre, eres muuuy vehemente (lo primero que había entendido era que creías que no tenías nada bueno que decir del artículo).
Sólo una puntualización. Ni en el mejor de mis sueños había creído posible mantener una conversación en Menéame sino ATRAER gente al blog para conversar aquí ¿no te da la sensación de que, a veces, siempre nos visitamos y comentamos los mismos? Pues eso… que hay que abrir mercado.

Creo que fue después de tu “Meneo” que a través de Menéame vi un incendiario articulo publicado en ALT404 donde criticaban durisimamente y con muy pocos fundamentos el Market de Android, a los AppleFanBoys les pareció de gran interés así que el Meneo llego a portada con gran rapidez, eso sí ninguno pasó de la entradilla de la misma por lo que la calidad de los pocos comentarios no era muy espectacular.
A los pocos días el blog “El Androide Libre” publico un post que contrarrestaba el de ALT404 mostrando que el articulo referenciado por ALT404 no tenia unos fundamentos muy sólidos, me pareció muy interesante y a Menéame lo subí… la lastima fue que mi meneo salio entre uno de Belén Estaban y otro de Elsa Pataky… y ahí quedo, con solo 5 votos y 1 comentario, el mío… Eso si, para la tranquilidad de todos añadir que tanto el Meneo de Belén Estaban y Elsa Pataky llegaron sanos y salvos a portada, con sus importantísimos “MELAFO” y “Hay foto hay meneo”

El por que de mi comentario en tu meneo y mi voto de spam ya te lo explique en el mismo, fue la combinación de mal día + mal entendimiento del voto SPAM.
Aprovecharé tu blog para detallarlo un poco más. Soy programador y me acababan de tirar atrás un desarrollo muy interesante por el simple motivo que al administrador de sistemas, ajeno a mi empresa, no quería instalar .Net en su Windows 2008 Enterprise…
No se que me molesto más, sí el que me tirarán atrás el “proyecto” o que el “Admin” no supiera que Windows 2008 en cualquiera de sus versiones viene con .NET 4.0 de serie…
Así que fue leer “C# apesta” y salio el pequeño Talibán que creo que todos llevamos en nuestro interior. Por suerte al pequeño Talibán lo suelo tener atado corto y enseguida recupero el control, pero ahí esta.. XDD Así que al poco me calme y volví al Meneo, y después de una rápida revisión a las normas vi que había metido la pata hasta el fondo, así que no me quedaba otra que reconocer mi error.
Como resumen a tus CUATRO comentarios seguidos :) Menéame no es Mordor… pero hay pocos usuarios allí como tú.
No digo que sea malo ni bueno, digo que a mi personalmente, no me sirve para nada. A gente como Eduardo Arcos o a Enrique Dans les parecerá el summum porque buscan trafico y estadísticas (de hecho, el primero come de eso). Yo no.
Si alguien quiere menear este artículo o cualquier otro del blog ni mucho menos se lo voy a impedir (encima que se ha esforzado) pero, desde luego, no lo voy a proponer ni a promover. El tráfico masivo y de baja calidad no es mi negocio ni el objetivo de este blog.

SI, bueno, siento haber sido poco claro. Obviamente me refería a que si no tenías nada bueno que decir sobre tu experiencia en Meneame… pues ya está, no hay nada bueno que decir.
Y sí, quizá los comentarios y visitas sean de un circulo reducido pero… ¿tu crees que vas ahora mismo a un Supermercado cualquiera, escojes 10 personas al azar y te saldrá una conversación sobre la presentación de Mr. Zhao que valga la pena? Pues eso es Internet-en-abierto: un super cualquiera.
Y en cuanto a lo de esperar: Esperas que te entiendan y que entiendan lo que quieres decir, que vengan aquí a conversar, que lo hagan en tono civilizado y que alguién te replique a la presentación de forma técnica y a ser posible, con otra presentación… pues a mí me parece que esperas mucho :).
Lo que también me parece bastante esperar es que alguien te replique de forma técnica una presentación que, como tu mismo dijiste, usa marketing del todo-a-100 y encima con un títular inflamatorio. Si uno empieza con ese tono, espera una respuesta de otro tipo es ingenuo, creo yo.
Una conversación decente de un tema así me apuesto que no la sacas ni en javaHispano, excepto con los de siempre, y se supone que la audiencia es más técnica y menos "del super", así que de un sitio como Meneame… ni de coña.
Y no es que me parezca mal que lo hayas intentando ni nada, válgame Dios, pero es que a mi me hubiera sorprendido lo contrario.

Es que meneame no aspira a ser una plataforma de promoción de noticias, sino un juego online cuyo objetivo para los jugadores es la acumulación de karma
Hola David! Tal vez lo de "siempre somos los mismos" pueda ser en parte porque no se ven… a lo que me refiero, yo mismo me reconozco un poco (bastante!) perezoso para participar, y es posible que haya muchos así, dando vueltas por acá de "incógnitos", pero que estamos encantados con este blog. Artículos como éste no tienen desperdicio (realmente)! Aunque debo reconocer que en general llego acá a través de JavaHispano :)
Lo genial de Internet es que existen múltiples opciones, desde portales controladísimos en los que incluso los comentarios tienen un papel muy poco relevante, a portales en donde los usuarios deciden qué noticias son las que más se resaltan, cada modelo tiene sus pros y sus contras, en los portales controladísimos no vas a poder publicar jamás (salvo que llegues a ser "alguien") y en los portales-jungla es posible que tampoco aunque inventes la penicilina si tu tema no interesa a las masas.
A mi me gustan los portales "intermedios", por ejemplo javaHispano.org y javaLobby/DZone, en ambos existe un grupo de "dictadores benevolentes" (en javaHispano yo soy uno de los dictadores) que en última instancia deciden cuando algo no es apropiado (con criterios en teoría objetivos), tanto en las noticias como en los comentarios.
En javaHispano las noticias son votadas y como son pocas prácticamente nunca se filtran (por exceso de noticias me refiero) salvo que sean inapropiadas, por lo que apenas puede decirse que sean "elegidas" por los usuarios pues rara vez una noticia propuesta no llega. Respecto a los comentarios se pueden eliminar aunque el anonimato por desgracia permite se escriban barbaridades, el problema es que esas barbaridades muchas veces no pueden eliminarse por parte de los editores pues no cumplen los criterios para eliminarse (no aportar nada, salirse del tema o ser ofensivo). En mi opinión sin comentarios anónimos mejoraría la calidad de la información del portal.
En DZone las noticias y artículos son filtrados por los editores pero doy fe de que es un portal muy abierto (a veces demasiado), respecto a los comentarios no se si hay alguna vez algún filtrado post-publicación (no hay moderación pre-publicación), no me consta, pero en general la gente suele ser civilizada.
Como se puede ver en ambos casos hay un "grupo editorial" que marca algunos límites y todo poder conlleva una responsabilidad y un buen editor que se precie tiene que ser responsable de sus actos pues de otra manera se puede cargar el portal.
En portales tipo Meneame pedir al individuo "responsabilidad" es mucho mucho más complicado, o mejor dicho de cada individuo responsable es muy probable que existan 5 irresponsables que descarguen su filias y fobias en el portal (los votos spam por ejemplo del artículo de David), en plan "Microsoft es malo por tanto C# es malo por consiguiente no debe aparecer por Meneame", este tipo de razonamientos colectivos pueden conseguir "oscurecer la realidad", el que no aparezca en Meneame no significa que C# (.Net en general) no sea muy muy relevante en la industria del software.
Hace bastantes añitos publiqué en barrapunto, un portal en algunos aspectos similar a Meneame (aunque en aquel tiempo las noticias las filtraban exclusivamente los editores), un artículo llamado "¿Poco Java y demasiado PHP?" mostrando cómo es posible que un colectivo muy amplio (como los editores y usuarios de barrapunto) puede enmascarar la realidad con sus filias y fobias.

En aquel entonces (2003) el ecosistema de Java era mucho más relevante en el mundo del software libre que otras opciones "más libres" y sin embargo en portales en donde se hablaba mucho de software libre (como barrapunto) brillaba por su ausencia.
Por otra parte la moderación de comentarios yo creo que es prácticamente nula en Meneame seguramente por aquello de que decida el karma, en javaHispano el comentario "No tenéis ni puta idea. Ensamblador es el futuro" seguramente lo hubiera eliminado yo o cualquier otro editor.
En fin, no digo que Meneame sea malo, lo de la información gestionada exclusivamente por los usuarios tiene su lugar complementario a los medios totalmente controlados que a veces generan información mucho más sectaria y parcial (estoy pensando en los periódicos españoles que en teoría su misión es "informar con objetividad"), pero la masa también puede llegar a distorsionar la realidad marginando y ocultando lo que no es mayoritario (el voto spam es un voto EN CONTRA de la publicación de la noticia).
De todas formas a mi Meneame no me vale como fuente de información sobre Java, software etc porque las noticias son de tarde en tarde y muy anecdóticas:
