La web de todos (1ª parte): Los objetivos

Normalmente, nadie suele proporcionar datos sobre su página web. ¿Cómo está hecha? ¿Qué tráfico tiene? ¿Cómo se generan los contenidos? ¿Cuál es la estrategia de crecimiento? Suelen ser preguntas que nadie contesta.

Ahora, con la perspectiva que da el tiempo y espíritu autocrítico, voy a intentar contestar todas esas preguntas y repasar los pequeños logros obtenidos y las mejoras necesarias, de la web de la compañía en general y mi blog en particular, durante estos últimos meses,  desde una perspectiva profesional y personal.

Voy a desgranar en los siguiente tres artículos (todos, incluido Jose Manuel, me habéis dicho que preferís artículos más frecuentes y más cortos :P) las interioridades de la web, el making of, el fracaso o éxito de la misma y los cimientos sobre los que está construida.

Si tenéis ganas de conocer cómo funciona este pequeño rincón del ciberespacio, aprender de los errores de otros y aportar vuestras críticas constructivas sobre que cambiaríais o mejoraríais. Os animo a que sigáis leyendo.

1. UN POCO DE HISTORIA

El 17 de agosto de 2009 lanzamos de forma oficial la web de SIXSERVIX. Era una antigua demanda de todos los que trabajamos en esta compañía: tener una página desde la que explicar al mundo qué es lo que hacemos y cómo lo hacemos. Habíamos estado tan ocupados desarrollando nuestros proyectos que nunca encontrábamos tiempo para desarrollar una pequeña web para nosotros.

Esta situación era especialmente grave en una empresa como la nuestra ¿Una compañía que desarrolla aplicaciones web sin una página web propia?

Habíamos llegado a esta situación por dos motivos principales:

  1. SIXSERVIX había sufrido un proceso de transformación desde el departamento de informática del Grupo VARMA hasta una verdadera empresa de informática, autónoma e independiente. En el camino, habíamos descuidado un poco todo lo que no tuviera que ver con producción y desarrollo, incluida la vertiente comercial. Si teníamos proyectos asegurados hasta el infinito y más allá con nuestros “clientes internos” ¿para qué priorizar una web para ser conocidos?
  2. Habíamos estado sufriendo jornadas de hasta 12 horas y, aún así, seguíamos sobre-asignados. No sobraba un segundo, parecía que nunca llegábamos a tiempo a nada ¿Cómo nos íbamos a poner a hacer algo que no era prioritario?

Afortunadamente, la Dirección entendió la importancia de crear y mantener un sitio corporativo y, con el esfuerzo de todos, se puso en pie.

2. EL OBJETIVO

bonillaEl objetivo era tener una página que sirviera para comunicar al resto del mundo nuestros proyectos e informar a aquellos que estuvieran interesados en nuestro día a día.

Una web es una herramienta de marketing imprescindible y, en nuestro caso, de marketing interno. Estábamos tan centrados en desarrollar que habíamos descuidado la comunicación con los verdaderos destinatarios de nuestro trabajo: nuestros usuarios. Era duro comprobar como prácticamente nadie en la compañía sabía qué estábamos haciendo y porqué lo estábamos haciendo.

Además, algunos trabajadores de la compañía habían manifestado sus inquietudes por publicar contenido relativo a su trabajo o aficiones relacionadas  en otro medio más público que el propio wiki de la empresa. Así, decidimos crear algo más que la típica web estática de tipo folleto-catálogo e integrarla con un mínimo sistema de gestión de contenidos y un ecosistema de blogs para los empleados de la compañía que desearan utilizarlo.
