Las 10 películas que debería ver el hijo de un informático
Puede que alguno de vosotros tenga la maléfica y secreta intención de que sus hijos sigan sus pasos en el mundo de la informática. Otros sólo querréis que comprendan mejor vuestra profesión. Pero, en cualquier caso, presentamos una lista de 10 películas que, definitivamente, un informático debería ver con sus hijos.
10. Hackers (1995)
Un niño es arrestado por el Servicio Secreto estadounidense por haber escrito un terrible virus informático y se le prohíbe usar un ordenador hasta que cumpla 18 años. Años después, él y sus nuevos amigos deben utilizar sus habilidades informáticas para acabar con una conspiración que pretende liberar en la red el virus más peligroso jamás creado, buscando pruebas de la misma mientras son perseguidos por las autoridades.
Película que cuenta con una jovencísima Angelina Jolie y el que se convertiría en su primer marido -Jonny Lee Miller- como protagonistas. Trata el hacking con relativo respeto y prudencia en una época, 1995, en la que ni Enjuto Mojamuto había descubierto Internet. Cuenta también con uno de los más ridículos y divertidos malos malísimos de la historia del cine.
9. Conspiración en la Red (2001)
Milo es un talentoso programador recién licenciado que decide unirse a una compañía (que se parece sospechosamente a Microsoft) después de ser invitado personalmente por el CEO de la misma, Gary Winston (que se parece sospechosamente a Bill Gates). Al contrario que Milo, su amigo Teddy decide seguir desarrollando un sistema de compresión de vídeo que ofrecerá gratuitamente a la Comunidad. Cuando Teddy aparece muerto y todo apunta a su nueva compañía, Milo comienza a investigar.
Tiene algunos de los momentos más hilarantes de la historia informática del cine, como la escena en la que Bill Ga… perdón, Gary Winston se acerca al ordenador de Milo y, de un solo vistazo en su código, dictamina: “Interesante… ¡Gran trabajo!“. Es una de las pocas películas protagonizadas por un programador y donde se cuenta una historia de programadores.
8. Piratas de Silicon Valley (1999)
La historia de Apple y Microsoft desde sus orígenes y como los destinos de ambas empresas se han cruzado varias veces a lo largo del tiempo.
El mérito de esta película fue conseguir contar la fundación y crecimiento de dos de las mayores corporaciones de nuestros tiempos, no en forma de documental sino de una manera amena y divertida.
Por supuesto, Bill Gates vuelve a ser el malo malísimo y Steve Jobs el visionario incomprendido, pero, además, introduce nuevos y divertidos secundarios como Steve Wozniak en su papel de genio loco o Steve Ballmer, al que tratan como si fuera un auténtico zocolotroco :) Salió directamente para la televisión y pasó sin pena ni gloria, pero te garantiza una buena tarde de cine y palomitas y merece la pena sólo por la escena en la que Jobs “roba” el ratón de los laboratorios de Xerox en Palo Alto.
7. La Red (1995)
Angela Bennett es una ingeniera informática que vive para el trabajo y que tiene pocos amigos fuera del ciberespacio. A punto de tomarse sus primeras vacaciones en años, recibe un disco de un compañero de trabajo con un software que le permite acceder a ordenadores del Gobierno y del Ejército y se ve envuelta en una “red” de espionaje informático.
Sandra Bullock haciendo de programadora y, lo que es más divertido, de pionera del teletrabajo. Introduce el concepto de troyano en el cine; aunque, como casi siempre cuando Hollywood se mete en el mundo de la informática, saliendo por la tangente. También es una de las primeras películas que plantea la importancia y trascendencia de la identidad digital, viendo como le roban su vida a la pobre protagonista. Buena, a pesar de Sandra Bullock.
6. Nivel 13 (1999)
La historia trata sobre una máquina de realidad virtual que permite a sus diseñadores visitar Los Ángeles tal y como era en 1937. Al entrar en el sistema, una persona de esta realidad alternativa es sustituida por una persona del mundo real, mediante transferencia de conciencia. El desarrollador del proyecto, Hannon Fuller, descubre algo de vital importancia y deja un mensaje a Douglas Hall en la simulación antes de ser asesinado.
Probablemente una de las películas más desconocidas de esta lista y, también, una de las de más culto por parte de los aficionados a la sci-fi. Plantea temas existencialistas y filosóficos muy cercanos a los que presenta Matrix, pero desde otra perspectiva. El reparto -exceptuando al protagonista- brilla a un altísimo nivel.
5. Matrix (1999)
Neo es un programador que, además, actúa como pirata informático, y que ya ha intuido que algo está mal en su mundo. Cuando es contactado por Morfeo y Trinity, éstos le explican que su vida, tal y como el la concibe, no es real, sino una simulación diseñada por máquinas.
¿Quién no conoce Matrix? Supuso una revolución en el mundo del cine, no sólo por el tema planteado -llevando al mainstream la Teoría de los Dos Mundos de Platón- sino por la introducción de la técnica del tiempo-bala que ha creado alguna de las secuencias más impactantes de la historia. Matrix, más que una película, es un verdadero icono de su tiempo. Eso sí, absteneos de ver las siguientes dos películas de la trilogía. No hicieron más que ensuciar la memoria y el prestigio de la primera.
4. Sneakers (1992)
Martin Bishop es un hacker experto en seguridad informática y jefe de un brillante equipo de denominado Sneakers (fisgones). Los Sneakers se dedican a poner a prueba los distintos sistemas de seguridad de bancos y empresas. Un día, reciben un peculiar encargo del gobierno que obliga a Bishop a enfrentarse con su pasado y, de repente, se ven inmersos en una historia de suspense e intriga que pone en peligro sus vidas.
Robert Redford, haciendo de hacker de la vieja escuela y acompañado de un elenco espectacular, entre el que destacan Sydney Poitier y Ben Kingsley. Toda la película sirve para explicar la diferencia entre hacker y cracker y para comprobar lo fácil que es elegir cualquiera de los dos lados de la moneda, dependiendo de si decides utilizar el poder para el bien o el mal. Te mantiene sin respiración hasta el final.
3. Blade Runner (1982)
En el futuro, seres fabricados a través de la ingeniería genética, denominados replicantes, son empleados en trabajos peligrosos y como esclavos en las “colonias exteriores” de la Tierra. Los replicantes fueron declarados ilegales en la Tierra tras un sangriento motín. Un cuerpo especial de la policía —los blade runners— se encarga de rastrear y “retirar” a los replicantes fugitivos que aún se encuentran en el planeta. Con un grupo de replicantes particularmente brutal y hábil suelto en Los Ángeles, un dubitativo Deckard es invocado desde su semi rretiro para que use algo de “la vieja magia blade runner“.
Simplemente impresionante. Nada más que decir.
2. Tron (1982)
Flynn es un programador al que su jefe ha robado la autoría y beneficios de los videojuegos que ha creado. Buscando evidencias del robo, Flynn se cuela en las instalaciones de su antigua compañía, donde es “digitalizado” -absorbido- por el ordenador central a un mundo cibernético dominado tiránicamente por la Unidad Central de Proceso, alter ego de su jefe.
Aunque Tron no tuvo inicialmente demasiado éxito, se ha consolidado como una película de culto por ser una de las primeras que incluyó gráficos creados por ordenador y por su espectacular temática: ver como una persona se convierte en un programa e intenta sobrevivir dentro de un ordenador.
Pero, por encima de todo, Tron es una película que marcó a toda una generación con escenas tan espectaculares como la de las motos de luz. No hay niño que no vea Tron y no quiera ser programador :)
1. Juegos de Guerra (1983)
David es un joven que usa con destreza los ordenadores y utiliza sus conocimientos para conseguir los últimos juegos, entrando en los sistemas de sus fabricantes. Su inventiva llega hasta el extremo de permitirle cambiar las notas del instituto, o abrir puertas sin necesidad del requerido código de seguridad. Incluso en una ocasión llega a reservar billetes de avión para él y su amiga Jennifer. Todo se tuerce cuando David entra en un sistema ajeno sin saber que ese sistema es el responsable de la gestión de misiles nucleares de Estados Unidos.
A pesar del tiempo transcurrido, Juegos de Guerra permanece como una obra intemporal. Poder recordar como era la antigua y primitiva Internet no sólo no provoca risa, sino añoranza. Pero es que, además, Juegos de Guerra lo tiene todo: una historia de amor adolescente, aventuras, la lucha contra el sistema e, incluso, moraleja política. Y como no, la frase más famosa de las películas sobre informática: “Saludos, Profesor Falken“.
Hay más películas, muchas más películas, como Días Extraños, Acoso o Mercury Rising, pero había que hacer una selección. No son todas las que están ni están todas las que son, así que sentíos libres de contribuir mediante los comentarios.

Buenas.
Creo que 2001, a Space Odyssey, toca muy profundamente la informática, más concretamente el campo de la IA, sacando todos nuetros miedos al ser superados por nuestras propia creación. Miedo a que nuestra herramienta de trabajo tome concinencia de sí misma, hasta el punto de vernos como una amenaza.
Por lo demás, pues el cine está lleno de bastantes chorradas sobre infromática, como todo.
Larga vida a HAL.
Mini resumen de las pelis que he visto:
Piratas de Silicon Valley: la empiezo pero no la acabo (esta la tengo que ver solo y es complicado)
Matrix: angustia
Blade Runner: transcendente y pelos de punta.
Tron: fascinante (desde una perspectiva infantil)
Juegos de Guerra: emoción y lagrimones
Las demás no las he visto.
Yo añadiría "2001 Una odisea en el espacio" en donde muestra al ordenador Hall 2000, que tiene un sistema operativo tan lleno de bugs que acaba pensando por sí mismo y teniendo emociones (miedo) dando lugar a respuestas no programadas.
Lo mismito que me suele pasar a mi, en lo que estoy trabajando cuando hago un click se generan dos eventos, yo creo que el programa ha decidido empezar a chulearme, yo creo que es porque el archivo de la película está en el disco duro, la ha visto y tomado ideas, asi que cuidado con vuestros programas, ¡educadlos bien!, cria cuervos…
Ohh… 2001 de Stanley Kubrick ¡una gran aportación! Solo puedo decir en mi defensa que, creo que en esa película todo, absolutamente todo, el viaje en el espacio, HAL, el monolito… no son más que excusas para trasmitir un mensaje, una inquietud

Yo pondría "El cortador de cesped". Para mi muy muy buena.
Trompetas de Cartón…..dicen algunos que está basad en hecho reales.
Es la obra filosofica mñas importante del siglo XX….inquietudes sobre el por qué de la evolución humana, inquitudes sobre a dónde le lleva el hombre su evolución….inquietudes sobre las consecuencias de ser dominados por nuestras herramientas y por los nuevos territorios conquistados a los que somos ajenos (el espacio).
Inquitudes sobre lo que podría ser dios…sin hablar de ningún dios…
Es la cosa mas grande que se haya hecho en el cine nunca.
A todo esto, me ha encantado tu post. Pero me doy cuenta de que la informática no ha tenido muy buenas representaciones en el 7º arte que se diga ¿no lo crees?
Me quedan muchas por ver y otras por volver a disfrutarlas como un enano.
A falta de don con la informática me refugio en el cine. Yo, como la canción: La ciencia avanza, pero yo no.

Uff.., a mi esa me decepcionó profundamente. La idea era buena, pero la ejecución un desastre.
Probablemente, de las peores películas de Pirece Brosnan y de Jeff Fahey, que podemos decir… eso si, en su época, los gráficos generados por ordenador era de lo más puntero que se podía ver en el cine.
Te ha faltado poner la que aquí salió como "Hackers 2" (Operation Takedown), que viene a contar la historia de Mitnick, uno de los grandes míticos de éste mundillo. Se ve perfectamente el crack que era el tío con la ingería social.
También habría puesto "Operción Swordfish", más que nada por el cambio radical que supone en cómo se ven los informáticos en la sociedad, pasando del gordete de Parque Jurásico al forzudo de H.Jackamn y demuestran que un informático puede estar con un pibón enseñando chicha sin ponerse a babear (vale si, lo de cracking+mamada también mola xDDD). Por cierto, Parque Jurásico tiene una de esas escenas para partirse la caja cuando la niña, viendo en la pantalla unos dibujos de donde estás los "dinos" suelta el "oh! es Unix… lo conozco!", es cojonuda xDDDD
Continúo aquí un interesante debate que tenía con David en el Facebook de Jorge H.A. respecto a la lista…
A mi Existenz me parece digna, pero al margen de su calidad, que puede ser discutible, teniendo en cuenta que toda la trama transcurre DENTRO de una realidad virtual en forma de videojuego, no me parece razonable decir que tiene menos relación con la informática que Matrix, por ejemplo. Y desde luego, es infinítamente más apropiada que Blade Runner, por mucho que nos guste a todos. Que por más vueltas que le doy, sigue estando fuera de lugar en esa lista.
Y David, debes mejorar tu lectura. No he dicho que Nivel 13 no tenga que ver con la informática, he dicho que es una castaña. La única de la lista que no tiene nada que hacer ahí, es BR. Lo primero es debatible, lo segundo, salvo que no se haya visto BR, no. Sacando BR de la lista (por temática), cualquiera de las que he mencionado (truñacos, cierto) tiene tanta o más relación y no son peores que varias de las listadas. Eso, en todo caso, también es debatible.
Decir que La Red es una mierda no es culturetismo, como dices tu, es que no vale ni como cine de palomitas. Operación Swordfish (que también va de hackers) es una mierda, pero al menos tiene ritmo, explosiones y a Halle Berry en pelotas. La Red es aburrida y tiene el típico guión hecho por retrasados informáticos que pensaban que Internet era esa cosa misteriosa con la que se podía esclavizar a la gente gracias al "hacking", más conocido como Magia Negra. Y lo peor es que encima se toma en serio a si misma. Y compararla con Existenz es lo contrario del culturetismo…es el "tontismo", el "vamos a ensalzar una mierda solo para ser original". Cógete ambas y mire la media de las críticas en rottentomatoes.com (por ser una fuente rápida de críticas de muy diversos medios)… mientras que Existenz tiene un 73% de críticas positivas, La Red tiene un 30%
Realmente, según Arthur C. Clarck es Heuristically programmed ALgorithmic (http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/HAL_9000), auque creo que eso de "pura coincidencia" tiene poco.

Para mi seguidor del software libre una de las mejores, sino la mejor es Antitrust (2001).
Yo la he puesto en un digno número 9. En castellano se llamó 'Conspiración en la Red'.
Era fantasma como ella sola, pero molaba la parodia de Mocosoft y Gillermito Puertas :)

Hola Santiago! Antes que nada, gracias por el comentario y las aportaciones.
Realmente, pocas películas tratan exclusivamente sobre informática. El objetivo del post era hacer una lista de películas que le encante a alguien que ame la tecnología en general y el desarrollo de software en particular… o que haga que comience a amarlo :)
En el caso concreto de Blade Runner, toca muy de cerca la robótica y la Inteligencia Artificial (por cierto, tampoco metimos IA de Spielberg) y hasta tienes una megacorporación maligna por detrás de todo (la Tyrrell Corporation, si no recuerdo mal). A mi si me parece que toca el mundo de la tecnología desde un punto de vista interesante (a mi me entraron ganas de construir robotitos como Daryl Hannah).
Respecto a la defensa de La Red, no es tontismo, es pura opinión. De verdad que me parece más palomitera y más divertida que Jhonny Mnemonic que esta al nivel de truñacos del estilo de Virtuosity (tampoco mencionada).
Pero para gustos, colores… a mi me gustó mucho Planet 51, y en Rotten Tomatoes y otros sitios la están masacrando.

BR toca la tecnología, como todos los relatos de K.Dick, pero desde mi punto de vista, la tecnología es solo estética, envoltorio. La prueba de fuego para ver si una película trata de tecnología o no debería ser "puedo contar esta historia suprimiendo la tecnología sin cargármela?" Nivel 13, que trata de ser un thriller, realmente no. No funciona sin la máquina de realidad virtual. La Red, Hackers o Tron tampoco. Ni siquiera Terminator tiene sentido sin Skynet, el T-1000 y los viajes en el tiempo, ni Minority Report se sostendría sin los Precog y en realidad es un thriller policíaco al uso. BR, en cambio, puedes trasladarla a, por ejemplo, el Berlín de los años 30, sustituir a Decker por un Hans, un ex-policía alemán, a los Replicantes por Judíos y para mi, la historia y los temas que tratan podría permanecer intactos. Por ponerte un ejemplo muy claro… Star Wars (como toda space opera por otro lado), es una película de aventuras, no de Ciencia Ficción… llévatela a la edad media, con su Emperador, su Darth Vader con armadura de caballero medieval Negra, sus Caballeros Jed…Templarios, sustituye la Estrella de la Muerte por el Ariete Paquito y las batallas de naves por batallas a caballo y en realidad no tienes que cambiar una coma para tener la misma historia.
Juer, se me ha pirado medio comentario… segía aquí:
BR es una de mis películas favoritas, como las de todo el mundo al que le guste el cine, imagino, pero me chirría en esta lista. Días Extraños, que me encanta, me pegaría más y aún así, tendría mis dudas… en el fondo, cambia los grabadores que usan por minicámaras VHS y la cosa no varía demasiado. Virtuosity, que coincido en que es maluna, trata precisamente sobre tecnología y realidad virtual, sin eso, no tienes historia. A Johnny Mnemonic, quizás le pase como a BR… el rollo cyberpunk es la base de la peli, pero la historia en si, funcionaría igual (de mal) si llevase atado a la muñeca un maletín con la información y una bomba.
En lo de La Red y Existenz, tendremos que dejarlo en que discrepamos… lo mío tampoco es culturetismo por Cronenberg (que fuera de Promesas del Este y Scanners tiende a aburrirme), pero Existenz no me desagradó. Aun así, creo que su temática es más cercana al espíritu de la lista que la de BR.
De todas formas, en general, sigo pensando que es un género este muy machacado por las películas de baja calidad. Con las excusas de 1) son frikis, dales efectos especiales y se lo tragarán todo y 2) son frikis, dales una tía mona y una historia con un PC en la que el informático pueda estar bueno y salvar el mundo y saldrán tan contentos del cine, Hollywood no hace ni un mínimo esfuerzo. Y me parece una pena, porque con la cantera de escritores de los que aprovecharse (sobre todo K.Dick y Gibson), tienen medio trabajo hecho.
Pues a mi me falta en la lista trabajo basura. "Podría quemar el edificio…" XD

A mi no me pareció mala aunque el argumento tenía un tufo de ultraderecha antisistema americana que la hace apta para mayores con reparos (y no me refiero a que salga una teta que nada de nada).
@Santiago: Y desde luego, es infinítamente más apropiada que Blade Runner, por mucho que nos guste a todos. Que por más vueltas que le doy, sigue estando fuera de lugar en esa lista.
Blade Runner representa dos utopías: la utopía del informático creando (programando) inteligencia autónoma y la utopía del biólogo creando vida de forma sintética.
Por la primera de las utopías merece su lugar en el mundo de la informática.

Yo creo que hay tan pocas y tan malas películas de infromática que tenemos que rebajar tanto el listón para que entren 10 películas nombrables que al final nos lleva a este debate.
Comparto totlamente lo de Santiago y el último argumento de jmarranz, aunque lo reconozco acertado, no lo comparto del todo. Por que la temática principal de la película, el mensaje, la reflexión no se centra ni de lejos es esas premisas. Se basa en las dudas acerca de qué otorga a la vida humana tal nombre. Si al final estas "máquinas" tienen sus sueños, sus fobias, sentimientos y, sobre todo, su miedo a morir ¿por qué no se puede aplicar el concepto de vida a ellos? Plantea una cuestión ética y filosófica en un contexto futurista donde la tecnología nos llevará algún día a plantearnos esta serie de cuestiones….
Sinceramente, no creo que hable de informática.
Pero insisto, es que hay tan poco y tan malo, que o se baja el listón para que entren o no entrarían casi ninguna.
Juegos de guerra si me parece una película que plantea, en sus albores, ideas sobre la capacidad y consecuencias (de manera frívola y con intención de entretenimiento simplemente) de algo que por aquel entonces empezaba a brotar como la nueva revolución tecnológica: la informática. AHÍ si es el tema y cuestión principal de la película.
Pues conmigo acertaron poniendo a la Halle Berry en pelotillas en Operacion Swordfish…soy así de simple :P
Si Blade Runner entrara en este temario de informática se lo merecería mucho más cualquier adaptación que hicieran de Asimov. Yo, robot es un atentado a su memoria, pero sin duda si que tendría más sentido que Blade Runner, ya que aquí, si que TODA la película gira en torno a las situaciones paradójicas que producen las 3 leyes de la robótica. Como diría Santi, si quitamos eso, nos quedamos sin película.
Lo que pasa es que Blade Runner es tan tan tan buena….y Yo, Robot, tan tan tan mala (Asimov aún debe de estar retorciéndose en su tumba)
De todos modos creo que la intención de David no era tan "purista", sino simplemente mencionar así varias películas presentables que traten de manera amena un contexto relacionado con la informática.
Pero es que nos mentan en cine y los frikis saltamos como ranas….y no hay quien nos aguante…

Ese artículo de Wikipedia comete dos infamias importantes:
1) HAL 9000 (…) es un personaje ficticio de computadora en las series de Odisea del espacio, que comenzó con la novela 2001 A Space Odyssey escrita por Arthur C. Clarke en 1968
La película de Kubrik es anterior a la novela. De hecho Clarke la fue escribiendo de manera paralela al rodaje de la película y estrenó el libre posteriormente a la película, por lo que sería más exacto que el orígen de HAL es la película y no el libro. De hecho el libro, es más explicito como comenta dicho artículo porque Clarke ante las dudas que quedaron en el personal al ver la película quiso hacer que se entendiera mejor el argumento.
2) Las inteligencias extraterrestres controlando los monolitos tienen planes grandiosos para Júpiter
Eso de inteligencias extraterrestres será porque lo dicen ellos…porque en ningún momento de los libros o películas se hace referencia a extraterrestres. Uno de los logros de esta obra es crear la suficiente ambigüedad en este asunto como para plantearse si hablamos de inteligencias superiores o de dios. Y la obra de Kubrick, especialmente. Si lo oye…la lía…
Bueno, dejo el tema, que este post no era sobre esto, que me vengo a arriba muy rápido :P
Faltan las series televisivas: imprescindibles al menos Star Trek Nueva Generación, Stargate Atlantis, Galáctica Estrella de Combate, IT Crowd, Big Bang Theory y Tropiezos Estelares.
Hay dos sectores que no entienden NADA de la informática: uno, el cine; el otro, los políticos :)
La informática es difícil de entender y, por tanto, difícil de utilizar para entretener (si no te limitas a los detalles más folclóricos :))

Pues me estoy dando cuenta que al cine sólo le interesa la "informática" cuando se trata de hablar de inteligencia artificial.
Cualquier informático debería ponerle a su hijo The Big Bang Theory :P

Algunas son malas de narices o, aunque sean películas "visibles" e incluso entretenidas, yo como informático no le recomendaría ninguna a mi hija por que va acabar pensando que nos sacamos programas de la manga en 2 segundos, que cuando nos sentamos en el ordenador vemos visiones como si fumaramos caballo de la peor calidad o que todos mis compañeros van en patinete, llevan coleta y se alimentan de pizza y mountain dew, llevan camisetas heavys y viven en pocilgas subterraneas.
Las hay un poco más "serias" pero francamente, cualquier película temática tiene que hacer "retoques artísticos" a la profesión que sea para poder condensar algo en dos horas, que si no las películas serían aburridisimas.
Así que como mucho una o dos películas "recomendables" como informatico. Del resto algunas se pueden ver, pero no las recomendaría "como informático", las recomendaría como cinéfilo. Es como que un militar profesional recomiende a sus hijos ver "GI Joe" o un astronauta Star Trek…
